BEHIND THE DESIGN: FLORAL TARGET BY SAM OSBORNE

How do you stay creative? Coffee, and lots of it! No, in all seriousness I stay creative because I’m not sure I have a choice, it’s a pretty natural state for me and can’t imagine it being any other way. However, when I’m running low on creative mojo I try to get out of the studio, take a walk, go and see a film or hang out with friends. I also love to cook and find that a tricky days work can be solved by an hour by the cooker making something delicious!

What are you inspired by? So many things inspire me, I think you can find inspiration in almost everything. I take a sketchbook with me everywhere and am constantly drawing and making notes about things I see. I especially love drawing from nature and find the colour palettes of flowers and plants amazing!

What is your favorite trend and how have you incorporated it into your designs? I am a huge fan of bold geometrics and love to give them a funky twist with an interesting colour palette or combining them with floral designs – I love the contrast between the organic nature of plants and the strong grid from a geometric pattern!

What is the story behind your favorite design in your DENY gallery? My Floral Target and Floral Grid designs came about at the time that I was just getting interested in gardening. I’d never paid it much mind before and suddenly all I wanted to do was plant things, water them and watch them grow. I spent a day drawing all the flowers, plants and seeds I could find in my newly planted garden and they were transformed into these two designs. You can see they embody my love of combining florals and geometrics!
