How do you stay creative? I love walking and exploring and I become influenced by the everyday things around me. I have an eclectic music taste and listening to a variety of playlists keeps my creativity flowing. I like to feel unrestricted, I play some good music and just draw; I try to work freely and organically so my work feels spontaneous and not contrived.
What are you inspired by? At the moment I’m a little bit obsessed with wild flowers, textures and geometric designs. I love design from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s and draw inspiration from artists such as Lucienne Day and Jackson Pollock. The inspiration that I also find when I’m traveling sparks ideas for my design work.
What is your favorite trend and how have you incorporated it into your designs? I’m someone who is very much a hand-drawn based artist and therefore like to just draw freely and whatever comes to me. However in recent years I have incorporated more abstracts and geometrics within my collections having been influenced by graphic and geometric trends I’ve seen. I always make sure to inject my own personality into my designs to give them my own unique stamp.
What is the story behind your favorite design in your DENY gallery? I love to create original motifs by hand and at the time of designing ‘Feather Trail’ I was influenced by bohemian design. I was sitting in the garden (enjoying the rare UK sunshine) and I naturally created a series of feather drawings, each one a little different and unique. I had to go and work them up on the computer straight away as I was so excited to see how the design would turn out and I just had fun with the process of layering up the various feathers and spot elements and choosing a fun, bright and contemporary colour palette to work with. It was a really organic process as I was working with a theme that I loved. Getting to do what I love everyday just makes me so grateful.
