Where do you call home and why do you love it?
My home is Berlin, Germany. This is where I have my apartment that I love, my sanctuary, a lot of my friends, and all the cultural things that I need. I love it here because it’s one of those rare cities in Germany where everything is loud, bold, alive, super colorful, and therefore very inspiring for an artist. But I am from the Frankfurt area where I also have family and friends that I visit often. And I have my family in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and I have my mom in Montevideo, Uruguay, where I spend a lot of time too. I’m so glad that I can do what I do anywhere in the world. It allows me to travel a lot and so I do.
Describe your artistic style in 140 characters or less:
Mostly colorful, bold, loud, positive, imaginative, geometric and organic. But it can be the something else completely as well.
What inspires you?
Everything and anything. Mostly constellations of things that people tend to overlook. Like the back of a building paired with billboards and graffiti. Rad combinations of textures, materials, colors and shapes can be found everyday. I love walking the streets of Berlin or wherever I am, to experience and get inspired by the always changing and breathing skin of the city. Traveling and moving does something to your senses. Being exposed to new surroundings, food, music, people, colors – any kind of new input can inspire and trigger a vision.
What three things would you bring with you on a deserted island?
Notebook & pen, my guitar and insect repellent. Yes, I would die pretty fast out there.
Tell us a story:
There are so many that I can’t decide which one. But here’s an idea, what if I tell you random one-sentence mini stories? That way you will get a better sense of who I am.
I cook with baking utensils and bake with cooking utensils. I don’t like regular pants but I love pajama pants. My favorite color is green, makes sense. A few years back, a very famous German rapper wanted to punch me because I got mad at him for being disrespectful to me. I have no sense of time, days, months or any dates, that’s why I am always late. Sometimes I wait all day and drive to the ATM in the middle of the night by bike just to have the streets for myself and to enjoy the starry sky. Number of times I rammed the linocut knife into my fingers: 4. As a kid I was attacked by a beautiful parrot and a cute old goat, that’s why I have a lot of respect for animals and I still love them all, except mosquitoes. I don’t understand why the colorful hearts emojis are all the way in the back and one needs to scroll and pass all the not so important emojis like the clothing items, too many versions of the moon, sports, images in tiny squares, flying money bundles and office supplies. If I had to pick between a shoe store and a hardware store, I would always choose the hardware store. Currently my favorite word is “Pfui” and it means Eww (disgust) in German. I live most of the artist clichés, the biggest one being I’m a night owl, getting most of my work done while everyone is sleeping. I am typing this at 2am.
