Hey Laura! First, let’s start with the basics. Describe your style in 5 words.

Bright Bold and Beautiful of course!

Of course! When did you know you wanted to be an artist?

The passion is in the genes. My grandmother and mother, both artists themselves, inspired me to paint.

What experiences helped form your design/artistic style today?

My love for vibrant bright color spills over into my home interiors, fashion style and every day life.

Tell us about your creative process.

Watercolor is my favorite medium. Once the brush meets the paper, the magic starts to happen. You never know how each painting will turn out and the happy accidents are the best ones.

If you’re running low on creative inspiration, what’s your remedy?

I get outside and breathe in the fresh air. Taking a walk with our black lab Sophie usually does the trick.

How has your artistic style evolved over the years?

Surprisingly, my style has remained the same. If it makes me happy, I stick to it.

Where do you see yourself as an artist in 5 years?

I hope to have my watercolor designs sold in major retail stores. DENY Designs is certainly one of the best choices I have made for my brand.

You are the DIY Queen. Tell us the story behind a few of your favorite projects!

I love to decorate for the holidays, and there is always another holiday around the corner. From mini boxwood wreaths to easy apple topiaries, I enjoy sharing an easy DIY project that anyone can make.

Tell us about the story behind one of the designs you have on the DENY website.

Coral Delight is my favorite painting. This is an example of a happy accident. The light blue stripe across the center of the painting was not planned. It happened by accident, and now I believe that stroke is what completes the painting, leading your eye from the left side to the right.

If you had to choose a piece of your own artwork right now and build a room around it, which piece would you choose and how would the space look?

Definitely Coral Delight. I love the how the colors dance around the paper. It really has a life and whimsical spirit of its own.

What is your most cherished home accent piece? Why?

I have many, and they are all handmade by my three children. You know the clay pieces I’m talking about that come home from elementary school art class? I have three turkeys that I proudly display in our kitchen window for Thanksgiving.

How do you change up your home for different seasons? Any tips/tricks to make it feel fresh?

I’m all about the holidays. Changing the mood of a room to fit the season can be as easy and simple as switching out throw pillows and adding scented candles. Voila!

Great ideas! You can invite 6 people (anybody! Living or dead) to a dinner party. Who made the list and why?

If you can’t make me laugh, then you’re not invited to the party. My dinner party guests would be Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. (Hello Saturday Night Live!)

What is one of your favorite quotes?

I have two.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain

“The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.” ~ e e cummings

5 Things you can’t live without?

Aside from the obvious (my husband and three children):

coffee / green tea / laughter / jeans / chocolate

What’s one goal you have for the near future?

Finding my DENY Designs home accessories in a major retail store. Hello!

Duh! Tell us what draws you to a piece of art.

Color, and how the color combinations play off each other.

Favorite trend in home décor right now?

I love anything with a shiny lacquer, high gloss finish.

Tell us your best tip for staying organized.

“Everything has a place.” That’s my motto, and I stick to it.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?

Fire engine RED.

Best piece of advice you’ve been given.

Eric Ryan of Method said once, “Enjoy the ride as much as possible, and take time to celebrate the little wins along the way. The journey is the greatest reward of building a business, but it’s so easy to lose sight of that as you’re chasing the next goal or milestone.”

Love that! Tell us, why do you love DENY?

What’s NOT to love about DENY? I’m thrilled to be a part of this ultra hip group of artists showcased on DENY Designs!
