Judith G. Klausner’s Mother never told her not to play with her food – and we thank her for that. We ran across Judith’s creations and were stunned at the creativity and uniqueness that her work embodies. Artist Judith G. Klausner is a Massachusetts-born artist who loves to play with her food, “recreationally and professionally.”
We were particularly drawn to her “Oreo Cameo” and collection, where she only uses toothpicks and straight pins to create Oreo artworks like the ones pictured below. Each piece takes up to six hours to make; when they’re not being displayed, they live in Klausner’s refrigerator.
Her project entitled “From Scratch” turns pre-packaged foods into beautiful and creative works of art. Because cooking for the family is traditionally a job that is given to women, Judith is highlighting that fact that pre-packaged food has, in a sense, given women some freedom from this characterization. Her use of Victorian handicraft transforms modern packaged foods into pieces of art.
